Description:
The tinymce editor for WordPress can be expanded and customized far beyond what’s available with the default installation. I have dedicated most of my time to working with the editor, and finding ways to improve it’s functionality. One problem I continuously encounter, is the settings for the editor… how do I know what each person will want?
This plugin will allow an advanced customization of the editor. It can be used with or without my Ultimate Tinymce plugin… although the customization options are GREATLY increased when using with Ultimate Tinymce.
Here are just a few options you can manipulate with this plugin:
- Re-order the position of buttons in each row of the editor.
- Create custom font sizes and populate them into the dropdown.
- Control the text colors and background colors available in the editor.
- Control what HTML tags are valid within the editor.
- Change the format of the date/time insertion.
- Add HTML tags previously stripped out by the editor.
The tinymce software comes with over 50 different customization options. These options were previously unavailable using wordpress. This plugin bridges the gap, automatically populating all pre-configured options, and making them available for manipulation. You can even adjust other options not included by default with WordPress.
Visit the TinyMCE Configuration List to see all the options configurable with this plugin.

it would be fantastic if the text editor would include buttons to insert .pdf’s, allowing the user to simultaneously upload, attach, and embed the document with a couple clicks, without needing to insert the link to the document
Hi Gary. Funny you mention this… as it’s currently in the works. I would like to make easy insertion of .pdf’s, excel files, download-able files, and other types of media and files.
Stay tuned.. as this should be fairly easy to implement.. and will make it’s way into a future release very soon!
Hi Josh,
Thank you for all the hard work you put in in order to make this great plugin. I can’t wait to start using it. However, having installed the plugin I found that even after enabling the settings in WordPress nothing shows up when I try to edit a page.
Non of the visual editing tools that came with WordPress have ever worked in my browser (Firefox) and that’s exactly the reason why I got so excited about using your plugin. But now it seems that your plugin won’t work either.
Any ideas of how I might be able to overcome this problem?
Thank you in advance for replying to my question.
Edwin
Hi Edwin,
Sorry for the issues. Would you mind sending me a personal email using the “Contact” tab above? I’ll most likely need to login to your admin panel and check how things are configured. If that’s okay with you, please include your login url, username, and password. Thanks.
Hi Josh
We gratefully appreciate all the wok you have done with Tinymice and we have every intent on getting your full paid version as soon as I can. We are only a small non profit charity and as soon as more funds become available I intend to give money to all the programmers that we use.
Your editor saves me hours of work and I do recommend it to others all the time.
Thanks Bill Ray,
It is these comments that genuinely makes it all worthwhile. Don’t get me wrong… I’d love your money
But these true “heart-felt” messages are what I like to hear. Please email me directly using the “Contact” tab above if you decide you are interested in any of the paid add-ons. I’ll certainly do my part for charity and offer a unique discount to you
Thanks again for the kind words!!
Hi. I did something that I need to undo. I set a preference somewhere to remove the icon for editing in HTML and removed several other items. I want to go back to the default. I went into the plug-in editor and selected to use the defaults, but nothing has changed. Then I deleted Ultimate TinyMCE Editor and still didn’t see the HTML button. So re-installed Ultimate TinyMCE Editor and still nothing has changed. What now? What did I do?
Hi John,
I’m not sure exactly what you did. Is is the HTML tab that is missing?
